Description of Infrared Zoom Lens:
1. Fundamental principle:
By manipulating the motion of multiple lens groups within the optical system, the combined focal length can be altered without shifting the position of the image plane. This ensures that image quality remains consistently high throughout the zooming process.
2. Optical system:
Mechanical compensation zoom mechanism: Each moving component follows distinct motion patterns, ultimately preventing any movement of the image plane. Mechanical compensation zoom lens: One set of lenses (known as the zoom group) moves in a linear fashion to adjust the focal length, while another set of lenses (known as the compensation group) undergoes small, non-linear movements to compensate for image plane displacement. This allows for both zooming capabilities and a stable image plane position. The zoom group typically consists of negative lenses, while the compensation group can be composed of either positive or negative lenses. The compensating lens group moves in a different direction and at varying speeds compared to the variable power lens group, but their relative motion is coordinated.
